About

The DPI Library Archive is a free reading room for public-domain fiction from the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries.

Most of these books have been out of print for decades. Each one is taken from a public-domain source, cleaned up, and split into chapters so it can be read in the browser without downloads or accounts. Some collections are presented as scans of the original pages instead.

Project Gutenberg has made thousands of classic, public domain books freely available, but their crowd-sourced texts often suffer from inconsistent formatting. To solve this, I built a tool that uses AI to automatically parse raw Gutenberg documents into clean, chapter-by-chapter RTF files, paired with a custom reader app that delivers a seamless, e-reader experience complete with swipe and arrow-key navigation.

How the books are prepared

Sources

Texts come from Project Gutenberg, archive.org and scans of original books and magazine issues.

Unedited

Stories appear as first published. Some contain language and attitudes of their time that readers will find offensive.

Public domain

Every title is in the public domain in the United States and free to read and share.
